Superstars are the named players who skate alongside Angus McShaggy, and in Tape to Tape 1.0 the way you get them changed completely. The old Rubber currency and Blademaster Shop purchases are gone. New players now unlock by completing challenges during your runs.
Quick Answer
Complete in-run challenges to unlock new players in Tape to Tape 1.0, such as getting 10 assists in a single game without scoring to unlock the Silent Hero. Each challenge is listed on the unlock screen, and some unlocks only come from winning a full run. You pick your superstar at the start of each run.
How superstar unlocks work in 1.0
Version 1.0 removed the puck currency and replaced it with challenges. The same system unlocks players, Power-ups, Relics, Squads and Benchwarmers, and anything you unlock stays unlocked for every later run.
Open the Unlockables menu to see every player you have and the ones still locked, each with the challenge that unlocks it. Some unlocks, along with some Squads and difficulties, can only be earned by winning runs.
Example player challenges
Challenges ask you to do something specific in a match, not just to win.
| Challenge | Unlocks |
|---|---|
| Have a skater get 10 assists in a single game without scoring a goal | The Silent Hero |
| Hit 20 opponents with the wet towel | A new player |
| Hook 50 opponents with the grapple | A new player |
Read the full list on the unlocks screen, because each locked player shows its own challenge there.

Players from the Early Access roster
Many names from the Early Access campaign are still part of the game. The earlier roster had 14 players:
- Rory McShaggy
- Calvin Dord
- Kelly Jelly
- Willie Brie
- Cam Amber
- Chloe Crockett
- Gedeon LaMoustache
- Sergei Lancelov
- Joan Ozark
- Frank Furter
- Clementine McShaggy
- Buck Wurst
- Ozzie Oioioi
- Chris Cultist
In Early Access you bought these players with Rubber at the Blademaster Shop. That shop no longer sells players in 1.0, so use challenges instead.
Why an unlocked superstar may have no active ability
Not every superstar comes with an active skill. Willie Brie, for example, has no active ability, and that doesn't mean his unlock failed. A player's attributes and talents still matter even without one.
Once you have the superstar you want, return to the campaign walkthrough to plan your run, or see how to unlock teams for Squads.
FAQ
Complete challenges during your runs. Each locked player shows its challenge on the unlocks screen, and some unlocks need a full run win.
A few players are available to pick from your first run. Everyone else unlocks through challenges.
You don't buy them in 1.0. The Rubber shop from Early Access was removed, and players unlock through challenges instead.
Start a new run, choose your Squad, then pick the superstar on the superstar selection screen.
Some superstars, like Willie Brie, simply have no active skill. That doesn't mean the unlock failed.
